Safety culture plays a critical role in an organization’s performance and pursuit of improved quality, safety and reliability. In their Sentinel Event Alert #57, the Joint Commission notes that leadership commitment to making patient safety a priority is essential to creating and maintaining a culture of safety for patients, employees and guests. Review the Joint Commission Sentinel Event Alert and resources about the importance of developing a safety culture, including measuring your safety culture, implementing a just culture, and fostering a reporting and learning culture. The alert provided by The Joint Commission can be found here, and information on the 11 tenets of a safety culture can be found here.
